Roberto Mancini supposes Sir Alex Ferguson cannot get himself to acknowledge Manchester City have played the best football in the English Premier League this season. On the other hand defender Joleon Lescott repeated Mancini's comments ahead of the clubs' meeting at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Lescott also believes Manchester United fans are struggling to come to terms with the reality that the derby is now their most important match of the season, eclipsing the historic rivalry with Liverpool.
Ferguson appeared to be flakeing away in archetypal style before the cup tie by claiming Tottenham Hotspur, not Manchester City, are English football's great performers.

Manchester Police had warned fans of Manchester City and United that they will "fasten down tough" on any supporters cause trouble at Sunday's FA Cup match at the Etihad Stadium.
As well as warning supporters going to the match, they have warned against the dangers of "increased alcohol utilization" to those watching the game on the television and the threat of violent behavior.
Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: "Manchester has been lucky enough to be able to get pleasure from another derby match, this time as an exciting FA Cup tie".
The close competition between the clubs really adds something more to this fixture and should be embrace, but police of Manchester ensured that this is not used as an excuse by some individuals to accomplish football-related cruelty and disorder.
