and third seed Victoria Azarenka as the 2012 Australian Open Women's
final kicks off in just a few moments from now at the famous Rod Laver Arena in
Melbourne, Australia.
Sharapova is certainly back with full force and on Saturday, when the whole world awaits the newest conqueror of the Daphne Akhurst Trophy, Sharapova will know deep down - "It's time for the kill." Petra Kvitova, who became her most recent victim in the semifinals on Thursday.
“Of course it took a long
time and it was a process, but it was just something that was in my steps that
I had to go through. And I did", said Sharapova. "I think personally,
for me, it's more about the Grand Slam win than the No. 1 ranking. That's just
always been the goal for me.
The other finalist,
Belarusian Victoria Azarenka is enjoying her first Grand Slam final appearance,
exactly after a year of contemplating a sabbatical from the sport that wasn't
staging the desired results for her.
Azarenka's renewed approach
towards the game garnered her great success in the last twelve months and gave
her the confidence to finally attempt to put her name on a well-deserved major
trophy.
Sharapova - "I think
she's a very tough opponent. She's been in the finals here, she won here, so
definitely she has a lot of experience. We always had difficult matches, so
really looking forward to that battle. It's not going to be easy."
